Sheffield Hy-Express Systems I and II
Sheffield Hy-Express Systems I and II both are animal-component-free products that serve as a complete source of nitrogen, (trace) minerals and vitamins required by E. coli.
Application Notes:
When replacing a current medium the best first test would be replacing the total yeast extracts and peptones currently used by the same total concentration of Hy-Express System. It would be worthwhile to do a second round of further optimization where the amount of Hy-Express System is increased as its unique composition may support higher final cell concentrations / product formation. If no current medium is available, 2% Hy-Express System, 0.5% NaCl and 50 mM potassium phosphate buffer (pH 7) would be a good starting point for further medium optimization.
