Diagnostic Media
Sheffield Bio-Science started producing casein hydrolysates for use in laboratory media in 1940. Since then, many of our high quality peptones have been used in clinical diagnostics and quality control media formulations.
In 2004 we expanded our capabilities with the introduction of a fully equipped diagnostic application laboratory, located in Amsterdam (Almere), The Netherlands. The application lab enables us to specifically select and optimize peptones, yeast extracts and combinations for specific media applications (general purpose, chromogenic and blood agar media) and allows us to optimize new products before we start commercializing them.
In 2010 a new product line specifically for diagnostics has been developed and is represented with the mark ‘4D’. This designation represents products with proven good performance in microbiological laboratory media.
The 4D products have been designed in our diagnostic application lab to support the growth of the full array of typically used diagnostic micro-organisms. These products are also well soluble and clear in solution before and after autoclaving and in the presence of buffers. Batch-to-batch consistency is a key parameter in our new product development activities.
In addition to our complete peptone product line of casein, meat and non-animal peptones, our portfolio has been expanded with a yeast extract ‘Hy-Yest™ 4D’ that is specifically targeted towards diagnostic media.
